Gold prices dropped in local market

Prices of gold have dropped in the local market of Bangladesh following price fall in the international market.

Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association on Sunday fixed the prices new prices of gold that showed per bhari (11.664 grams) price dropped by Tk 1,167.

The latest prices will be effective from Monday, the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association said.

As per the revised rate, the price of per bhari 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 45,898.

The price of 21-carat gold has been revised to Tk 43,857 per bhari.

Globally, gold hovered near three-week lows today as the dollar firmed on expectations of a US interest rate hike in June and the market discounted a surprise win by France's far-right presidential candidate.

The US Federal Reserve is expected to hold interest rates steady after concluding its ongoing two-day meeting, but it might focus on future rate hikes, which would reduce demand for non-interest bearing gold.
