Fire at Twin Towers in Dhaka

Several people have been injured while rushing out of the Twin Towers Concord Shopping Complex at Dhaka's Shantinagar after a fire broke out on the building's ninth floor.

The fire on the 20-storey building's residential section started at around 1am on Wednesday, Fire Service control room official Bhajan Kumar Sarker said.

Ten fire-fighting units put out the flames after an hour, he added.

There were no reports on anyone suffering burns yet. But some people got sick from the smoke while several others received minor injuries when they were rushing out using the stairs and elevator, residents of the high-rise building said.

The injured were taken to hospitals, Fire Service officials said.

Many from the upper floors were stranded on the roof and stairs. Fire fighters later rescued some of them using ladders.
