HSC exams rescheduled for hartal

The Sunday's Higher Secondary Certificate and its equivalent examinations have been rescheduled following the Jamaat-e-Islami's countrywide hartal. According to the decision, the Sunday's examinations will be held on Monday (May 9). Md Mahbubur Rahman, the President of a sub-committee related to the examinations, confirmed this to media tonight.Earlier the Jamaat-e-Islami called a 24-hour countrywide hartal for Sunday protesting the Supreme Court order upholding its ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami’s death penalty. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected death-row war crimes convict Nizami’s review petition. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha announced the verdict today. After the review against death rejected, the government can initiate Niazami’s execution process now. The final chance that remains for the Jamaat chief is to seek presidential clemency.
