Security beefed up for Amar Ekushey: DMP

Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Assaduzzaman Mia on Sunday said four-tier security arrangements have been taken in and around the Central Shaheed Minar for smooth observance of Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day.

The DMP commissioner came up with the information while talking to reporters at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city.

Some 8,000 members of Detective Branch (DB) police and Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and members of the RAB force will be deployed in the area to ward off any untoward incident, Mia said.

VIPs including the President, the Prime Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and foreign diplomats, can use Doyel Chattar area to come Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the language movement martyrs while other people will have to enter the area through Palashi intersection, said the DMP boss.

We will try to prevent any kind of unpleasant incident in and around the Shaheed Minar area on 21st February," he said.
