Diarrhoea situation in country shows no sign of improvement

The diarrhoea situation of the country has not improved much. From March 1 to April 15, about 48,000 diarrhoea and cholera patients were treated at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr’b) in Dhaka.

Although the number of patients admitted to the hospital has decreased since April 8, it has never come down below 1,000.

Some 1,058 people were admitted on Thursday. Some 619 people were admitted in 15 hours till 3 pm on Friday.Earlier, on April 4, some 1,383 people were admitted.

According to icddr’b officials, the country has never seen so many diarrhoea and cholera patients earlier. Of the admitted patients, some 23 percent were affected by cholera.

There is no sign of reduction in the number of diarrhoea patients admitted in other hospitals in Dhaka and hospitals outside of the capital. Incident of patents' deaths before reaching hospital was also reported.
