BNP calls it anti-people budget

BNP on Thursday turned down the proposed national budget for Fiscal Year 2016-17 as they termed it an anti-people one.

The party also said there is no reflection of people’s hopes and aspirations in the new budget.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday placed a Tk 340,605 crore national budget in parliament for the next fiscal year (FY17).

“This budget is an anti-people one. The current government has no right to place the national budget as it lacks public mandate. We turn down the illegal budget of an illegal regime,” UNB quoted BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He came up with the instant reaction of his party to the proposed budget at a press briefing at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

The BNP leader said there is no guideline for investment in the budget. “Though crores of educated youths remain unemployed, there’s no focus on the budget for creating employment.”

Rizvi also alleged that the budget will create further scope for the ruling party men to plunder public money in the name of development.

He said their party senior leaders will formally come up with the party’s reaction to the budget shortly after thoroughly analysing it.

Sought his comment, Jatiya Party Co-chairman GM Quader described the proposed budget as ‘highly ambitious’.

He also said the government will not be able to implement the budget.
