Bangladesh backs Nigeria’s Boko Haram war

As Nigeria’s military intensifies the war against Boko Haram, Bangladesh has joined a clutch of foreign governments ready to assist her.

The Asian country has offered to train Nigerian soldiers.

The offer came as Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai paid a courtesy call on Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban, the country’s Presidential Palace in its capital Dhaka on Monday.

General Buratai expressed the hope that relations between the two countries in different sectors, including the military, would be strengthened further in future.

President Hamid underscored the need for exchange of visit of top officials of the armed forces of Bangladesh and Nigeria saying this will help increase professional skills of the military of the two nations.

He urged the members of Nigerian Army to take training in Bangladesh citing the ability and proficiency of the country’s military training institutions where a total of 98 Nigerian military officials have trained since 1984.

“Nigeria can also invite Bangladesh Army to Nigeria for counterterrorism and Jungle Warfare Course training,” President Hamid said.

The president said members of Nigerian soldiers can take admission to different courses at Bangladesh University of Professionals.
