Deepika auditioned for Tom Cruise’s film ‘Mummy’
Bollywood star Deepika Padukone’s Hollywood journey, it seems, has just started with Vin Diesel’s xXx: the Return of Xander Cage. She has bigger plans, like starring opposite Tom Cruise in The Mummy reboot.
According to entertainment website SpotboyE, the Bajirao Mastani actress has auditioned for an important role in the film. However, she has not received any revert from the casting directors of the film yet. The role, according to the report, is that of an Egyptian girl and Deepika auditioned in Los Angeles for it.
The website quoted a source as saying, “They are looking at other options. Even if Deepika doesn’t make the cut, the very fact that she was in the running for an important role in a Tom Cruise starrer is quite a high in itself.”
Earlier, Huma Qureshi had confirmed that she had auditioned for the film. “Huma has recently auditioned for the third part of the successful franchise starring Hollywood star Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella playing the lead antagonist,” Huma’s spokesperson had said in a statement. If sources are to be believed, Huma had auditioned for the main lead opposite Cruise.
The Mummy is one of the many remakes planned by Universal Pictures as an effort to create an interconnected universe for their classic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, and vampire hunter Van Helsing.
Alex Kurtzman is set to direct the The Mummy reboot from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus). The film also stars Sofia Boutella of the Kingsman fame.
