Dhallywood: Stars of 2016

As another year comes to an end, it is time to look back on the best performances the silver screen had to offer. To round up the remaining contenders: here is a list of actors who surprised us, who delighted us and created controversy. Some gave the latest in a long line of impressive performances; others seemed to come out of nowhere.

Shakib Khan: Enjoying a performance and a film driven simply by the image of an actor can be difficult, but Shakib Khan makes it compelling. The actor, who rebelled against jointly production films, has reigned the world of these films. King Khan starred in six films, among those 'Shikari' and 'Bossgiri' ruled box office. For Shakib, 2016 was all about debuting dashing looks.

Mahiya Mahi: Mahiya Mahi started her average year with 'Krishnapokkho', a film basing on a novel of Humayun Ahmed. However, she suddenly tied the knot at the peak of her career and got strangled with controversy. Rumor mills had been buzzing over the allegation of her multiple marriages.

Chanchal Chowdhury: Thespian legend Chonchol Chowdhury made his breakthrough debuted on the silver screen with blockbuster hit 'Monpura'. This year, the actor also came, saw and conquered. Starring in 'Aynabaji', Chonchol again showed his incredible acting prowess and broke all the box office records.

Nabila: Although Chonchol Chowdhury was the star and center-piece of 'Aynabaji', actress Masuma Rahman Nabila complimented her well. Nabila, who stepped in the media with modelling, anchoring and acting in TV dramas, made her marks with 'Aynabaji'.

Nusraat Faria: Nusrat Faria started her celluloid career with Jaaz Multimedia to appear in two films in 2015. Nusrat Faria's latest film "Badsha" was released and she made waves. According to her, she has received more praise for her performance in "Badsha" than she did for 'Aashiqui' and 'Hero 420'.

Bappy Chowdhury: Rising star Bappy Chowdhury could not do well at box office in 2017 despite his early release 'Sweetheart' opposite Mim. The actor starred in a couple of other films, such as 'Onek Dame Kena', 'Baje Chele', 'Ami Tomar Hote Chai' and none of them could quite make the mark. However, the actor made headlines again by the end of the year when he raised a controversy regarding dubbing issues in Ononno Mamun's film 'Ami Tomar Hote Chai'.
