Mahi to play eponymous roles in 5 films
Dhallywood diva Mahiya Mahi has a busy schedule in the coming days as she will act eponymous roles in five woman-character centric feature films.
Mahi will play lead roles as Badhan, Kajol, Jannat, Meghla and Sundori respectively in Premer Badhan, Golaptalir Kajol, Jannat, Duranta Meghla and Tumi Amar Sundori.
Mahi considers her contracts of doing lead roles simultaneously in five films as ‘overriding joy’ since women-centric films are hardly produced in local film industry known as Dhallywood.
In an interview with New Age, Mahi talked about her new film projects and other ongoing works.
‘For an actress in the local film industry, it is really inspiring and encouraging to get a chance of playing so many eponymous roles in a year as most of the films produced in Dhallywood are male character centric. Though I will have to deal with huge pressure to finish my job, I consider myself lucky,’ Mahi said.
‘I will give my level best to enact diverse roles simultaneously,’ she said.
In her short but vibrant career of five years, Mahi has earlier enacted in a number of eponymous characters and earned critical and audience acclaims.
Mahi played the character Agnee in Iftakar Chowdhury’s action thriller Agnee and retained her role in its sequel Agnee 2. She also performed as Moyna in Zakir Hossain Raju’s film Anek Sadher Moyna and as Juliet in Ashok Pati’s Indo-Bangladeshi joint venture Romeo Vs Juliet.
‘Playing eponymous roles is challenging and at the same time rewarding,’ Mahi continues, ‘An artiste needs to take extra pressure for enacting such characters. But, if it is done successfully, the artiste gets huge response from the industry people and fans.’
‘I like to play challenging and diverse characters in films with atypical storylines,’ she said, adding that she got appreciations for acting diverse characters as rural girl, daredevil, journalist, secret agent and others in different films.
The actress also said that she had recently appeared in the reality show ‘Khude Gaan Raaj’ as a guest jury member.
Mahiya Mahi was welcomed as the ‘new Dhallywood sensation’ when she made her debut in 2012 through the commercially successful film Bhalobashar Rong.
She also earned plaudits playing important roles in Bhalobasa Aj Kal, Poramon, Tobuo Bhalobasi, Desh: The Leader, Big Brother, Krishnapakkha and others.
