President Abdul Hamid, PM Sheikh Hasina greet workers on May Day

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted the toiling masses on the occasion of the historic May Day. In separate messages on the eve of the day, they expressed solidarity with the working class and urged all to come forward for establishing their rights and ensuring their welfare. In his message, the President called for establishing good worker- owner relations, ensuring fair wages and safe and congenial workplace and enhancing skills of workers, according to BSS. President Hamid appreciated the government's labour friendly activities and said the government is carrying out various development activities, including ensuring safe work atmosphere and fixing the lowest wage for the workers. Now the working class people are getting the benefit of these activities, he added. The government has announced 'Vision 2021-41' for the country to achieve middle income status by 2021 and make it a developed country by 2041, the President said and suggested sustaining the existing good worker-owner relations to reach the goal. In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid deep respect to the people who embraced martyrdom to establish fundamental rights of the working people in Chicago in 1886. She said greatest Bengali of all times Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had struggled throughout his life for realizing rights of the deprived and working class people of the country.   "We are relentlessly working to follow the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the welfare of the working people," the Prime Minister said. The government has modernized the Bangladesh Labour Law, 2006 and formulated Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Law, 2013 and is implementing massive development programmes for the welfare of the working people, added the Prime Minister. She hoped that production at all mills and factories would increase through cordial relations between employees and employers by following the spirit of the historic May Day. "Our united efforts would be able to build a prosperous Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Prime Minister added. Both the President and the Prime Minister wished the May Day programmes a success.
