Case filed accusing 3 unknown persons over Tangail tailor murder

A case has been filed accusing three unidentified people in connection with the killing of Hindu tailor Nikhil Chandra Joarder in Tangail. Quoting officer-in-charge of Gopalpur police station Abdul Jalil, UNB said victim’s wife Aroti Rani Joardar filed the case on Saturday night.

Unidentified assailants hacked Nikhil, 50, to death at his tailoring shop in Dubail area under Gopalpur upazila in broad daylight on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, a police team was deployed at the house of slain Nikhil Chandra Joarder for providing security to his family members. Earlier, police detained a madrasah teacher, Maulana Amirul Islam, 42, super of Alamnagar Dakhil Madrasah, from his home at Dattabari village in Madhupur upazila of the district, for interrogation in connection with the killing of the tailor.

Hours after the incident, global terror outfit Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the killing, US-based SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors terrorist activities globally, said in a post. Amirul Islam, also the Gopalpur correspondent of vernacular daily Inqilab, filed a case against Nikhil in May, 2012 for his derogatory remarks about Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Nikhil had then served three months in jail for his disparaging comments. Later, Amirul withdrew the case on March, 2015.
