The State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Monday said the biometric mobile SIM card registration will help the law enforcement agencies to identify the real criminals.

"The biometric verification of the mobile phone SIM has created an opportunity to verify the real owner of the mobile SIM with the information of his own National Identity (NID) and the system would help the law enforcers to unearth the real crime perpetrators," she said.

Tarana Halim today said this in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) in replying to a tabled question from the treasury bench member Habibur Rahman Mollah of Dhaka -5, reports BSS.

Before introducing the biometric SIM registration system, there was no proper method of identifying the mobile SIM subscribers, said the state minister and added that in the sample verification identity of most of the mobile SIM subscribers of the country was found false.

Even, we have found evidences that almost 60,000 SIMs were registered against a particular NID, she added.
