Sheikh Hasina said it was her government's responsibility to look into the wellbeing of the people of the country and "we are doing everything necessary to protect their lives and property".
The Prime Minister, however, sought the countrymen's cooperation to fight back militancy urging everyone to keep a vigil on the people in the neighborhood to track down those who are linked to militancy or involved in any subversive activity.
She urged the people to inform police as soon as they notice anything linked to terrorism or militancy to equip members of law enforcement agencies with clues for quick actions.
The tenth session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad was prorogued as Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury read out a presidential order for prorogation of the parliament session that began on April 24 last.
The Prime Minister said a country can prosper faster in a peaceful atmosphere, on which her government attached utmost importance.
In her nearly 45-minute speech Sheikh Hasina highlighted her government's steps for socio-economic development of the country keeping it free from the clutches of militancy and terrorism.
She said after repeated abortive attempts on her life, BNP and its cohorts now targeted her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and recalled that this quarter in the past had rewarded assailants of Bangbandhu with membership in parliament.
"It's their character and profession," Sheikh Hasina said.
The premier said now opposition Jatiya Party was equally responsible for protecting and promoting the killers of Bangabandhu family saying "both of them (BNP and Jatiya Party) offered lenience to the killers".
"It's the great mercy of the almighty that we could expose the killers to justice after coming to power in 1996;" she said.
