'Execution only a matter of time if Nizami does not seek presidential mercy'

'Execution only a matter of time if Nizami does not seek presidential mercy'
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam on Monday evening has said that the jail authorities can execute the death sentence of convicted war criminal Matiur Rahman Nizami any time if he does not seek presidential mercy.  

He came up with this statement while speaking to media at his office.

 

Once the jail authority gets the copy of the verdict, they can start the process for executing according to the legal procedure.

 

However, the jail authority concerned would ask the convict, whether he would file a clemency plea to the President. If he declines to do it or if his clemency plea is rejected by the President, the jail authority in line with the decision of the government can execute him anytime.
