A woman committed suicide by taking poison after allegedly being failed to bear the torture by her son at Nischintapur village in Jessore Sadar upazila early Friday.  

The victim was identified as Nazma Begum, 43, wife of Tabibor Rahman of that village.

Local sources said Rubel, son of Nazma, often inflicted torture on his mother over conflict between her and his (Rubel’s) wife Kadiza Khatun on different family issues. On Thursday, Nazma had an altercation with Khadiza over such a matter around 2.00 pm. Khadiza complained to her husband about it after his return from field. Enraged, Rubel beat up his mother Nazma with an iron rod, leaving her injured. Not only that, Rubel also incited her mother to commit suicide, by hurling aggressive remarks. Failing to bear the trauma, Nazma took pesticides at night. Later she was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injures around 2.00am. Illias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said no one lodged any complaint in this connection, reports UNB.
