Six journos attacked, cameras burnt by yaba traders in Teknaf
Six journalists including three camera crews were attacked allegedly by a group local criminal Bhuttu Bahini at Najirpara of Teknaf upzila in Cox's Bazar district on Friday afternoon while they were covering news. During the attack, the miscreants also burnt the journalists' laptops and cameras.
The attack took place in Najirpara school ground at around 5:00pm.
This was today’s second untoward incident to have taken place in Teknaf, the first one being an attack on a camp of law enforcers that resulted in death of one person.
The injured media men are identified as Sujauddin Rubel, staff reporter of Somoy TV, his camera crew Foyej, Toufiqul Islam Lipu, district correspondent of Independent TV, camera man Sharif, Kamrul Islam Mithu, district correspondent of 71 TV and his camera person Babu Dass.
The injured journalists claimed listed top Yaba trader Nurul Haq Bhuttu leaded the attack.
Taufiqul Islam Lipu told reporters that they went Muchri Rohinga camp to collect information on the incident of arms looting and killing of an Ansar member that was take place on this morning.
For taking update information they went to Najirpara and came to know that Bhuttu was involved in arms looting from Muchri Ansar Camp, the journalist added.
Suddenly, a group of miscreant sooped on them while they were inquiring about Bhutto, leaving them injured and burned their cameras.
Confirming the incident, Kabir Ahmad, an inspector of Teknaf Police Station, said they have sent a police team to investigate the incident. According to him, Bhutto, is a top wanted yaba smuggler, top circulated English newspaper the Daily Star reports.
