2 BD peacekeepers killed as cyclone lashes Mali coastline

Two Bangladeshi peacekeepers who were assigned under the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali, were killed as a cyclone lashed the West African country on Sunday. The deceased are police constables Md Samidul Haque, 30, and Motahar Hossain, 28. The two constables were on duty along with others of the UN peacekeeping mission when the cyclone brushed the coasts of Mali around 5:30pm (local time) on Sunday, leaving the duo dead and five others of Bangladesh police injured, news agency UNB said quoting senior information officer of the Police Headquarters AKM Kamrul Ahsan quoting sources at Bangladesh Mission in Mali. Other members of Bangladesh police deployed in the Mali Mission are now safe there, he added. Born in 1988 in Munshiganj district, constable Motahar joined Bangladesh police in 2007 while constable Samidul was born in 1986 in Bhotmari village of Sherpur district and he joined Bangladesh police in 2005. Both of them joined the Mali Mission on May 2 last.
