By dissolving the school’s managing committee, the government reinstated the publicly humiliated Narayanganj headmaster Shyamal Kanti, who was suspended for allegedly criticising Islam.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid came up with the announcement at a press briefing at International Mother Language Institute in the capital in the morning. The managing committee of Piyar Sattar Latif High School has been dissolved as it illegally suspended headmaster Shyamal Kanti and with this, he (the headmaster) has stayed back in the position.

The minister said the probe committee formed to investigate the issue did not find any truth of the allegations against Shyamal Kanti and that the school committee illegally suspended the headteacher. Headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta was beaten up and made to squat holding his earlobes in presence of local Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Selim Osman last Friday over allegations that he demeaned religion – a claim the teacher denied.
