5 killed in 3 districts as cyclone Roanu approaches

At least five people were killed in Bhola, Chittagong and Patuakhali districts and over 100 people injured as cyclone 'Roanu' makes its impact across the country from early Saturday.

Of the five, in Bhola, Akram Hossain, 45, and Rekha Begum, 35, were crushed under fallen trees. They both were residents of Shashiganj village of Tajumuddin upazila.

Another deceased is Naya Bibi, 50, resident of Dashmina upazila of Patuakhali.

A woman and her son were killed in a landslide triggered by incessant rains at Jungle Salimpur in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong.

The deceased were identified as Kajal Begum, 45, and her son Belal Hossain, 10.

Hundreds of houses, business establishments and shops were damaged, many trees and 5-6 electric poles were uprooted during the storm.

Over 100 houses were also damaged this morning. Meanwhile, 10,000 people in Charfashion upazila under Kukri Mukri union were inundated by tidal surge, said Chairman of Kukri Mukri union, Abul Hashem.
