JMB man among 3 killed in ‘gunfights’ in 3 dists
Three people including a suspected member of the banned Islamist militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were killed during a gunfight with the members of elite force and law enforcers in the capital and Gaibandha early Thursday.
Rampura Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB) sources said, they arrested robber named--Kamal Parvez--on Wednesday noon.
According to his statement, a team of elite force conducted a driver at Balur Math area early today.
Sensing the presence of the team, Kamal's associate opened fire to RAB forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Kamal was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
Fire arms and bullets were recovered from the spot, RAB sources said.
Turag Thana RAB-1 said, the gunfight took place between a group of robbers and the members of elite force during checking at the check post.
Nazrul, 25, was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his other associates managed to flee the scene.
Rab members also recovered fire arms and bullets from the spot. In Gaibandha, a suspected JMB was killed during a 'gunfight' with police at Malancha village in Gobindaganj upazila.
Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet.
Police sources said, on secret information, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive at the house of Jahangir around 1am when the JMB men were holding a clandestine meeting, said Mozammel Haque, OC of Gobindaganj Police Station.
Sensing the presence of police, the JMB men opened fire to them prompting the law enforcers to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, the JMB men managed to flee the scene.
