Over 3100 held in special crackdown in 24 hours

Over 3100 people, including BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men, have been detained across the country including capital Dhaka as the law enforcers launched a weeklong countrywide anti-militant combing operation on Friday

 

The nationwide crackdown aimed at halting a wave of brutal attacks on minorities and activists in Bangladesh.

 

Police arrested 37 militants and 3,155 other alleged criminals making countrywide special drive in the last 24 hours, said a press release of police headquarters today.

 

"One shooter-gun, one bullet, 500 grams of gunpowder, 15 crude bombs, 21 jihadi books and 15 personal diaries used for their criminal activities were recovered from them. Besides, 757 motorbikes were also seized in the last 24 hours," the release added.

 

Police launched the week-long nationwide crackdown on Friday on suspects behind the latest slew of violent attacks on minorities and secular activists in the country.
