Garment workers continue protests for third day

The readymade garment (RMG) workers, demonstrating over the new wage structure, are continuing their protest for the rhired day in the capital and its outer edges Ashulia, Savar, Gazipur on Tuesday.
At least fifty workers hurt as police charged button on a demonstration of garments workers in Dhaka’s outskirts Savar and Uttara in the capital this morning.
The agitating workers reportedly block roads and locked in frequent clashes with the members of the law enforcement agencies at Hemayetpur in Savar and Uttara in the city.
The injured are yet to be identified. Savar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Awal has confirmed the clashes and injuries.
Moreover, garment workers in Mirpur’s Kalshi area have occupied the road and are engaging in confrontations with police.
Police Kafrul Zone Assistant Commissioner Syed Mamun Mostafa said the demonstration in front of a 22-storey garment factory had blocked off one side of the road in Kalshi.
Garments workers are also protesting on the streets in Rokeya Sharani and the Pallabi area, causing traffic congestion.
Earlier yesterday, hundreds of readymade garment (RMG) workers staged demonstrations in Uttara, Savar and Gazipur while some of them took position on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, demanding cancellation of the ‘discriminatory’ wage board and calling for a raise in their wage with several other demands on the second day.
