Erfan Salim, son of Awami League lawmaker Haji Md Salim, has secured bail in two cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act and the Arms Act.

Additional District Magistrate of Dhaka passed the bail order on Tuesday (January 5).

Confirming the matter, Erfan Salim’s lawyer Prannath said, “We filed an appeal against the jail sentence handed down by mobile court. Additional district magistrate has granted bail to him today in the case filed under the Narcotics Control Act and on January 3, Erfan Salim also secured bail in the case filed under the Arms Act.”

On October 26 last year, a mobile court conducted by Rapid Action Battalion sentenced Erfan Salim and his bodyguard Zahidul Molla to one year in jail on charges of drinking wine and possessing walkie-talkie illegally.

Meanwhile, police have submitted the final report on the two cases, discharging him from the charges but submitted charge sheets against Erfan’s bodyguard Zahidul Molla in two cases filed under Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act as they found the allegation against him true.

On Sunday (October 25) night, a video of Lieutenant Wasif screaming for justice before the public after being assaulted by Erfan and a few accomplices went viral on social media.

The attack took place in the Kalabagan bus stop area around 7:45pm on Sunday, when the military officer protested after his motorcycle was hit by Erfan's car, which had a parliament sticker.

Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday night, naming four accused including AB Siddique Dipu and two to three unnamed persons.

The other three named accused are Erfan Salim (37), Md Zahid (35) and Md Mizanur Rahman (30).

The elite force arrested Erfan Salim, a councillor of ward 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation, and Md Zahid after conducting a drive at the house of Erfan, at Old Dhaka on Monday.

A mobile court led by RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam also jailed the lawmaker's son and Zahid for a year each after illegal guns, ammunition, liquor, walkie-talkies and handcuffs were found during the raid.

On the same day, a Dhaka court placed Erfan's driver Mizanur Rahman, who was arrested soon after the incident, on one-day remand in connection with the case.
