Hasina-Modi likely to meet on Mar 27

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to visit Dhaka on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Independence and the Mujib Year.

He is likely to arrive in Dhaka on March 25 or 26. A meeting may take place between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on March 27, according to Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen.

He told this to the reporters at the foreign ministry on Sunday (January 31).

Masud bin Momen said the issue of water sharing was discussed during his visit to Delhi. The Teesta water agreement has also been discussed between the two sides. We are frustrated with the Teesta treaty. However, we are optimistic about this agreement.

In reply to a query, the Foreign Secretary said, “We also expect India to monitor the situation in Rakhine after the repatriation of Rohingya. We have discussed there (in Delhi) that India, Japan and other ASEAN countries can also monitor the situation in Rakhine.”

Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen reached Delhi on January 28. He returned to Dhaka on the morning of January 31. He made the visit to finalise Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka on the golden jubilee of independence on March 26. During the visit, he also met Indian External Affairs Minister S Jayashankar and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
