Myanmar to take back some Rohingyas: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Sunday said Myanmar would take back some of Rohingyas after the next round of DG-level discussion scheduled to be held in February.

"We got some positive responses. We told them it's an opportunity for you (Myanmar) to take back your nationals," he told reporters after attending a programme in Dhaka.

Dr Momen said Bangladesh put forward few proposals during the secretary-level talks with Myanmar. They said they will take back some Rohingyas.

"We gave a list of eight lakh Rohingyas to them. However, they only verified 42,000 Rohingyas from that list," the foreign minister said, adding that a director general level meeting with Myanmar will be held in the first week of February this year.

Details on the issue will be discussed in that meeting. We want to start the repatriation process, he added.
