Dhaka-Delhi for strengthening bilateral ties, cooperation
Dhaka and Delhi on Friday agreed to further solidify bilateral ties and mutual cooperation in the context of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence.
The decision was made at the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in New Delhi today.
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen from Bangladesh and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla from the India co-chaired the meeting, said a foreign ministry press release.
The two countries underscored the importance of the year 2021 in the context of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Bangladesh, the 50th year of bilateral diplomatic ties as well as the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
It was also agreed between the two countries to maintain the steady momentum of bilateral cooperation and people-to-people tie.
Both sides noted with satisfaction the renewal of the Air Travel Bubble arrangement that will facilitate essential travel between the two sides.
The FOC expressed satisfaction at the intensity of bilateral exchanges, continuing steadily despite COVID-19.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Dhaka visit on March 26, the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's liberation, was also a priority topic in the FOC.
Earlier on August 18 last year, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited Dhaka. He also held a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen.
Secretary Momen was scheduled to visit Delhi in December last but the tour was canceled after he had tested positive for Covid-19.
