Remove Al Jazeera's video report from social media: HC
The High Court on Wednesday asked telecom regulator (BTRC) to remove the Al Jazeera news channel's video report titled "All the Prime Minister's Men" from Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after hearing a writ in this regard.
Earlier on February 8, Barrister Enamul Kabir Emon filed a writ petition seeking measures to remove Al Jazeera's report from all online platforms.
The court appointed six legal experts as amicus curiae (friend of court) to give their opinions on the issue of banning Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera in Bangladesh and the removal of a recent report from online platforms.
The legal experts gave their opinions to court on February 15.
Al Jazeera published the report on February 1. Hours later, the foreign ministry of Bangladesh issued a statement terming it as false and politically motivated "smear campaign" by people linked to the Jamaat-e-Islami extremist group.
On Monday, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) issued another statement rejecting the report saying Al-Jazeera's report against Bangladesh Army is false and fabricated.
Moreover, a sedition case was filed on Wednesday morning against four people including the director general of Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera.
The accused are- Swedish-Bangladeshi journalist Tasneem Khalil, Hungary-based entrepreneur Zulkarnain Saer Khan, British journalist David Bergman and Director General (editing council) of Al Jazeera Television Dr Mostefa Souag.
