A new Dash 8-400 aircraft named 'Shwetbalaka' of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday.

The aircraft arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal Airportat 5:00pm from Canada.

Earlier on Thursday, the Dash-8-400 model  aircraft manufactured by Canadian aircraft manufacturer De Havilland, left De Havilland Bombardier Aerospace in Canada for Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina named the aircraft 'Shwetbalaka'.

Following the landing of the aircraft at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, it was greeted by a water canon.

State Minister for Civil Aviation M Mahbub Ali, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) chairman, Biman Bangladesh Airlines managing director, and other senior officials were present at the airport.

Biman has procured three Dash 8-400 aircraft under the G2G (government-to-government) agreement between Bangladesh and Canada.

The first one joined the Biman's fleet on December 27 last year, while the second one on February 24 this year. The third one was inducted on Friday (March 5).

The aircraft has 74 seats with modern facilities for passengers. The addition of the aircraft to the fleet will increase the flight frequency on domestic and short-haul routes.

The addition of Shwetbalaka will take the total number of aircraft on the Biman fleet to 21.

Currently, Biman's fleet includes four Boeing 777-300 ER, four Boeing 787-8, two Boeing 787-9, six Boeing 737, and four Dash 8-400 aircraft.
