Journalist Pir Habibur Rahman passes away

The daily Bangladesh Pratidin’s executive editor Pir Habibur Rahman passed away in Dhaka on Saturday.  He was 58.

Pir Habibur breathed his last at about 4:08 pm while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Labaid Specialized Hospital in the city.

Earlier, he suffered a stroke while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on Friday evening and was shifted to the ICU of Labaid Hospital.

In October last year, he recovered from cancer after a bone marrow transplant at Jasluk Hospital in Mumbai.

On January 22, Pir Habibur tested positive for Covid-19  and was admitted to Labaid Hospital on the advice of Dr ABM Abdullah.

Bangladesh Protidin special correspondent Anis Rahman said, he was recently admitted to BSMMU due to kidney complications. While undergoing treatment there, he had a stroke on Friday evening and was shifted to the ICU of Labaid Hospital.

Peer Habib was born on 12 November 1963 in Sunamganj.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and leaders of different journalists’ associations expressed deep sorrow over the death of the veteran journalist.
