Search committee to sit with 8 media representatives today
The six-member search committee formed to finalize the recommendations for the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners will sit with eight senior journalists.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge on Tuesday (February 15).
The search committee will sit with— Business Standard Editor Inam Ahmed Chowdhury, New Age Editor Nurul Kabir, Managing Director of Maasranga Television Anjan Chowdhury, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, Dhaka Tribune Editor Zafar Sobhan, Channel I news Chief Shykh Seraj, Journalist leader Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul and former President of Jaitya Press Club Shawkat Mahmud.
Earlier, the search committee took opinions from the country’s some eminent personalities after sitting with them in two phases on Saturday (February 12). The search committee also sat with the eminent citizens the following day as well.
The two-day long meeting was attended by eminent personalities from different walks of life including educationalists and professors, renowned media personalities, doctors, former government and military officials, and leaders of professional organizations.
President M Abdul Hamid formed a six-member search committee headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to form an Election Commission (EC) following the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022.
On January 5, the Cabinet Division had issued a gazette notification regarding the matter.
