Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said 10 mobile courts will be assigned to launch drive for ensuring food safety during the holy Ramadan.

He was addressing a workshop at Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan of the capital on Thursday.

Hailing from Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Karwan Bazar, and Mohakhali, owners of 200 hotels and restaurants attended the workshop to learn how to cook and sell iftar items maintaining hygiene.Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Atiqul Islam said “The workshop is of great importance. It is not our objective to punish the owners of hotels and restaurants. Rather, we would like to reward them. If we try, we will be able to ensure food safety.”

He spoke of the need for public awareness, adding that safe food is most crucial for good health of the new generation.

Although many hotels and restaurants in the capital maintain food safety, the shops of chotpoti and paratha are unhygienic, he opined.
