Regulation, not banning of motorcycles on highways emphasized: NRSC

The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) has rejected the proposal of banning motorcycles on highways.

The decision came after the 29th meeting of NRSC organized by the council at the BRTA headquarters in the capital city on Tuesday (November 15).

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, "Motorcycle is the source of income for many unemployed people in our country. We are putting emphasis on regulation motorcycles on highways rather than banning them."

He also said, "Road Transport Act will be passed soon. Government is planning to pass the act in the January session of the national Parliament."

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Awami League Presidium Member Shajahan Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and other officials concerned were present at the meeting.
