Alesha Mart chairman, his wife jailed for six months
E-commerce platform Alesha Mart chairman Manjurul Alam Sikder and his wife Sabia Chowdhury have been jailed for six months in a bank cheque dishonour case.
At the same time, they were fined Tk 3,46,500.
Judge Tasruzzaman of the Second Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka pronounced the judgement on Thursday (January 25).
The court issued arrest warrants against the convicts as they were absconding during the pronouncement of judgement.
The case statement reads that a buyer named Nuruzzaman Ripon ordered to purchase a motorcycle from Alesha Mart on June 8, 2021 at discount. He paid Tk 2,50,310 through mobile banking as per his order. But, he didn't receive his motorcycle even after 45 days. Being failed to hand over the motorcycle to the buyer, the Alesha Mart authorities gave him a cheque of Tk 3,46,500 on December 28, 2021.
Later, the customer deposited the cheque to The District Council Hall branch of Sonali Bank Limited on March 20, 2022, but it was shown dishonoured. Then the sufferer contacted Alesha Mart many times, but they started playing dally-dillying.
Sufferer Nuruzamman is the driver of Dhaka" Special Judge Court-7. Then he filed a case against Alesha Mart on May 19, 2022.
