Hold UP polls peacefully, B Chy urges PM
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to hold the upcoming union parishad polls uninterruptedly. “People could not cast their votes in the Januray-5 election. The recently held elections to the city corporations and municipalities were also not free and fair. Let the upcoming union parishad polls be held smoothly,” he said pointing at the Prime Minister. B Chowdhury, also a former president, was speaking at a programme arranged at BDB’s Kuril Biswa Road central office marking the joining of nearly 100 leaders and activists of different parties’ Natore units to BDB, UNB reports.
The BDB chief said the country now lacks democracy and the rule of law. Referring to the killing of a tea-seller in fire reportedly by police in the city, he said police are persecuting people. “Police killed a tea-seller by burning. It’s a shameful matter for the government.” B Chowdhury observed that thieves and terrorists are now dominating in politics. “There’s no alternative to the politics of honest people to get rid of this situation.”
