UNO assaulted for ‘showing no respect’ to Feni AL leader
Parshuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) HM Rakib Haider was assaulted allegedly by a local Awami League leader and his men for not showing respect to him, reports news agency UNB. Deputy Commissioner of the district M Aminul Ul Ahsan said the UNO was waiting in Dhonikunda area of the upazila to receive Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan who came here to visit the Bilonia land port and attend a rally. District AL vice-president Khairul Bashar Majumdar Tapon along with his supporters was also waiting there to receive the minister for the inauguration of a kindergarten in the area. As the UNO reportedly did not ‘show any respect’ to the Awami League leader while passing by them in front of the school, Tapon engaged in a brawl with Rakib, witnesses said. At one stage, Tapon and his supporters physically assaulted the UNO, leaving him injured. The injured UNO was first taken to Parshuram Health Complex and later shifted to Sadar Hospital for better treatment. Sadar Hospital resident medical officer Dr Asim Kumar Saha said they found several injury marks in the head and different parts of the body of the UNO and he needs to undergo a CT scan. Contacted, AL leader Tapon denied the allegation. UNO jeep driver Abul Kashem filed a case against 19 people with Parshuram Police Station in this connection.
