Arrest warrants issued against 29 BNP men
A court in Dhaka on Wednesday issued arrest warrants against 29 BNP leaders and activists, including some senior leaders, in an arson case filed with Paltan Police Station. Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge M Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after taking cognizance of the charge sheet submitted against them. Among those, the big guns are Joynal Abedin Faruq, Shimul Biswas, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Barkatullah Bulu and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah. However, 24 others BNP leader and activists, including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secured bail in the case earlier, On January 5 last year, some unidentified miscreants vandalised and torched a mini bus in front of Hotel Bakshi at Paltan in the city. Following the incident, Sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station Manibur Rahman Sujan filed a case against 51 BNP leaders and activists including Fakhrul and many unidentified ones. Later, on February 14, 2016, Sub-inspector of the same police station Bibekananda Debnath, also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against 53 BNP leaders and activists.
