BNP leader Aslam sued for treason

Police on Thursday filed a treason case accusing BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury for his alleged link with Israeli spy agency Mossad to topple the government, destablising the country.

DMP's detective branch deputy commissioner (DC) Sheikh Nazmul Alam said the BNP's assistant Secretary General Aslam Chowdhury was accused of the treason charge and the case number is 21.

DB Inspector Golam Rabbani of DB filed the case with Gulshan Police Station.

The development came hours after police's inspector general (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque told newsmen that investigators gathered evidence that Chowdhury tried to overthrow the government with Israeli supports.

Police arrested the Chittagong-based BNP leader on May 15 along with two others from Kuril area in the capital.

Police at that time said they arrested him on charges of holding meetings with Israeli politicians and intelligence officials as part of a plot to topple the government while Bangladesh does not have any diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv.

Chowdhury's photographs with an Israeli politician belonging to its rightwing Likud Party earlier went viral on the social media while the issue was subsequently grabbed by the mainstream media.
