BNP finds no alternative to democratic movement
BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Friday said only a vigorous democratic movement is now a solution to restore democracy in the country and get rid of repression, killings and misrule.
The BNP leader came up with the statement while addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal marking the 35th death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Quoting Nazrul news agency UNB said, "Whenever we switched on TV channels we get bad news about killing, enforced disappearance, rape or other criminal activities and accidents. Under the circumstance, we've no other alternative to a stronger democratic movement to restore democracy and free the country's people from oppression, injustice and misrule".
The BNP standing committee member also said that BNP-backed elected mayors are now in jail while those not elected with people's vote are running the country as there is no democracy and the rule of law here.
Thousands of crores of taka have been looted from the Bangladesh Bank, state-owned banks and other finical institutions but there is no action against the offenders, he added.
Claiming that their chairperson Khaleda Zia has been on a movement to restore democracy and establish a government accountable to people, he called upon the countrymen to get united and make it a success with their spontaneous participation.
