Khaleda hosts iftar for foreign diplomats

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday hosted an iftar party in honour of foreign diplomats working in Bangladesh.   Before the iftar, Khaleda went round the banquet hall and exchanged pleasantries with the guests at the iftar party at a city hotel. It was followed by dinner.   The BNP chief took iftar flanked by Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Egypt in Dhaka Mahmoud Ezzat, US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, British High Commissioner Alison Blake, EU Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon, Norwegian Ambassador Merete Lundemo, Korean Ambassador Ahn Seong-doo, French Ambassador Shopie Auberet, Kuwaiti Ambassador Adel Mohammad Hayat, Sri Lankan acting High Commissioner Chandrasena Munasinghe, Vatican Ambassador Archbishop George Kocherry and BNP vice chairman M Morshed Khan.   Ambassadors, high commissioners, mission chiefs, charge d' affaires and representatives from different international agencies and other envoys from around 38 countries, including India, Pakistan, Japan, Australia, Iran, Qatar, Switzerland, Singapore, the Philippines, the Maldives, Indonesia, Nepal, Germany, Bhutan, Denmark, Palestine, Turkey, Malaysia USAID and ICRC, attended the party.   Ex-DU VC Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, Prof Mahbub Ullah, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Dr Shahdeen Malik, journalist Mahfuz Ullah, Prof Asif Nazrul Dr Sukomal Barua, and Advocate Elina Khan, among others, joined the programme.   BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, its senior leaders Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, Mahbubur Rahman, Hannan Shah, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Reaz Rahman, Sabihuddin Ahmed, Inam Ahmed, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Asaduzzaman Ripon were, among others, present.   A munajat was offered before the iftar seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country and the welfare of its people.   It was the fourth and last iftar party hosted by the BNP chief. Earlier, she hosted iftar parties for orphans and Islamic Scholars, politicians and professionals and noted citizens.
