BNP has no ability to foil polls: Quader
Rajshahi: Claiming that BNP has no capability to foil any election, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said it cannot resist the next election even if its chairperson Khaleda Zia is declared unfit by court for contesting the polls.
She (Khaleda) will be unfit for contesting the next general election if the court convicts her. If BNP tries to disrespect the court order, people will resist them. Actually, BNP has no ability to foil an election," he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating a divisional digital fair at Rajshahi Government College ground at noon.
His comments came against the backdrop of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's warning that there will be no election in the country if their party chairperson Khaleda Zia is sent to jail by convicting her in 'false' cases.
aWe would like to clearly say if Khaleda Zia is sent to jail by punishing her in false cases, no election will be held in the country. No patriot people will take part in such polls," Fakhrul had said while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Wednesday.
The Awami League leader also said BNP could not foil the January-5 election in 2014 and it cannot do so in the future, too.
He advised his party leaders and activists to be smart in their activities but analogue with respect to the manner.
Presided over by acting Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Monir Hossain, the programme was attended, among others, by State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Rajshahi city unit AL president AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.
