Vote boycott successful: Rizvi
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said their party appealed to people to boycott the election. People have boycotted the election outright giving an unprecedented verdict.
He made the remarks while addressing a virtual press conference on Sunday (January 7).
Rizvi said: "We have appeared today to thank people instead of showing our reactions to the elections. We are victorious today. We called upon people not to go to the polling centres and cast their ballots. We requested them not to go to the polling centres, and they didn't go there. More than two percent voters didn't go to the polling centres. Our vote boycott has been successful. We convey our thanks and gratitude to the countrymen."
Claiming that people have boycotted the votes, he said had BNP taken part in the election under Sheikh Hasina, they would have to pay the price. Because of it, vote has been boycotted along with people. People have given their verdict today. Except the people belonging to the Awami League family, their conscience supporters have also boycotted the farcical elections. "It has been proved that boycotting the vote was rational and just," he said.
The BNP leader said it was not an election of vote rigging, rather it was an election of open vote dacoity. Awami League workers were seen at Senbagh and Sonaimuri with brandishing arms. Nurses from General Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet were taken to a queue outside a polling centre to show foreign observers about the presence of female voters.
