Former Pakistan right-arm fast-bowler Aaqib Javed on Monday refused to join the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as bowling coach.

The 43-year-old is currently working with one of the five Pakistan Super League sides, Lahore Qalandars, as the director of cricket operations. Aaqib resigned from his head coach post with UAE in April after working with them for four years to take up the role with Lahore Qalandars.

“I have recently joined Lahore Qalandars and started working from last Friday only, so it’s not possible for me to take any other job,” Aaqib told ESPNcricinfo.

He added that he will be looking for short-term assignments after the second edition of PSL.

“But I may be open for a short-term coaching consultant job after the second edition of PSL, not as full-time [coach],” he said. “Right now I am in a long-term relationship with the Qalandars and I am committed to them, and it’s not really reasonable for me to take up role with Bangladesh.”

Meanwhile, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed Aaqib’s refusal saying they are looking for other candidates.

“After we contacted him, Aaqib considered our proposal but [declined] because it would be very difficult to handle two important positions at the same time,” said Chowdhury. “As we were doing before, we are looking for other options in this position.”

Earlier on Sunday, BCB president Nazmul Hassan said that Aaqib was being offered the role.

“We are in touch with Aaqib,” Hassan had said. “Our CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed us that we will get an answer from him – yes or no – by day after tomorrow (Tuesday). We are also discussing if we can talk about the alternatives.”
