David Warner, Australia's suspended opener, is set to get back to a leadership role with the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League. With his suspension time closing in, he is not only aiming to perform well with the bat but also looking forward to leading Sylhet Sixers.

The left-hander, who arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (January 3), believes the experience of playing on the low and slow surfaces in Australia's club cricket will hold him in good stead for the upcoming tournament.

"I was having a conversation with Waqar [Younis, Sylhet coach] today about playing club cricket in Australia at the moment. The wickets are quite low and slow. It has been tough to adapt to those conditions but I have had a very good run of form at home and having played here in Dhaka and Chattogram before, I know what the wicket is going to be like. So for me it is about getting into a routine and rhythm and making sure I can lead from the front, from the top. So it makes it easy for the guys coming in," he said.

Barring a couple of handy knocks for St Lucia Stars in the CPL, Warner hasn't done much of note with the bat in recent past. However, he hopes to put his experience to good use and lead from the front in the upcoming tournament.

"I am extremely grateful to be leading the side. For me it is about making sure that we as a whole, including the support staff and management, can get the best out of the players. We have to establish our best XI when we get into the park and make sure we do the right things in training. I have to make sure I am doing my job right, which is scoring runs and leading the guys on the park."

His presence, despite all the negativity following the sandpapergate is expected to draw crowds to the stadium. However, Warner doesn't wish to look much into it, with several other international players also participating. "If you look at the lists of some of the other teams, they [fans] are not here to see just me."
