State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid has directed the power and energy division officials to be pro-active in social media to reach to their consumers easily.

The state minister came up with the directive on Sunday while addressing a seminar on “Power and Energy Sector in Social Media” at Biddyut Bhaban in Dhaka.

Terming the social media a bridge between the power-energy sector and its consumers, Nasrul said social media interactions with the consumers will let officials know about the problems and they will be able to take necessary steps.

The seminar was arranged against the backdrop of the consumers’ different posts and comments in the social media against load-shedding and power disruption despite the government’s claim on huge improvement of the power supply situation.

Officials said Power Ministry has launched a project at a cost of Tk 1 crore to expose the recent developments of the power sector.

The seminar was organised as part of the project, which was also addressed by Power Secretary Monwar Islam.

Nasrul Hamid said the government is technology-friendly and always encourages using social media to build up a direct communication with the people.
