US AL rally in front of UN, Al-Jazeera office

United States Awami League has staged a rally in front of United Nations and Al Jazeera office in New York in protest of allegations of corruption against top Bangladeshi officials in a report aired on Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television last Monday.

At the rally, held at noon local time on Friday (February 5), protesters described the Al-Jazeera report as a fabrication and an anti-Bangladesh conspiracy.

Speakers at the meeting said Al Jazeera's report against the Sheikh Hasina government was politically motivated and untrue. They had a purpose. That caused such incidents for the same purpose. Their report is baseless and the manifestation of an anti-national conspiracy.

Leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliates who took part in the rally said that those who still could not accept the independence of Bangladesh, looked at the achievements and progress of the country with violence, could not accept the assassination of Bangabandhu and trial of war criminals, the report is just their tactical conspiracy.

The rally was chaired by Siddiqur Rahman, former president of United States Awami League, and protest rally addressed by Abdus Samad Azad, former acting general secretary. Former Publicity Secretary Dulal Mia Enam, Former International Affairs Secretary Dewan Bazlu, Former Expatriate Affairs Secretary Mohammad Solaiman Ali, Former VP and Central Volunteer League International joint-Secretary Md. Sakhawat Biswas, Connecticut State A. League President Jihadul Haque Jihad, Michigan Metropolitan A. League President Mozammel Khan Makhan, A. League activists Kamal Hossain Rakib, Saiful Alam, J A Joy, Humayun Chowdhury, Shahanara Rahman, Bir Muktijoddha Munir Hossain, Ebadur Rahman, Saeed Golam and Kibria Zaman among others.
