Modi avoided allegations of collusion with Adani
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's direct role and manipulation is behind the dramatic rise of Adani Industrial Group in India - Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi raised this allegation directly in Parliament, but Prime Minister Modi evaded his response.
Delivering a vote of thanks on the President's speech, Prime Minister Modi delivered an almost hour-and-a-half-long 'response speech' in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, but did not respond to any of the specific allegations leveled against him by the opposition.
Adani was not mentioned in his speech, nor did the name of any industrial group come up even once.
Instead, he has chosen the path of counter-attacking the Congress on the issue of corruption. He said the decade of Congress rule from 2004 to 2014 was a 'dark phase' of financial scandals and violence in Indian history.
Just as PM Modi was about to address Parliament, the leader of the main opposition Congress, Rahul Gandhi, tweeted, “Prime Minister, you cannot silence the voice of democracy. People of India asked you some straightforward questions. Answer.”
However, Narendra Modi did not directly or indirectly answer the questions raised by the opposition.
After his speech at the meeting, top leaders of the ruling BJP continued to say that there was no need to respond to the allegations that the opposition could not produce any evidence for.
